Hi Bob. I also have an iPhone 12 that is my preferential go-to device. Wifie is satisfied with an iPhone 7 that meets all of her less-demanding needs just fine. Both of us eschew social media, so telecoms and texting are as far as either of us go, usually.
That said, I cut my baby-teeth on the original Motorola Flip-phone and I have always liked it because of its small size. Easy to carry unobtrusively and compact, being a communications device first and foremost.
However, I did eventually get yield to modern necessity and got an iPhone, and I am now quite comfortably used to the Apple OS; but the Apple phones do not fit comfortably into a shirt pocket., which for me is a BIG drawback.
Then along came the Samsung (Android OS) Galaxy 5 Flip, so I got one of them (again for its compact and VERY convenient size. It fits perfectly in just about all my pockets (button-able shirt pockets included). Perhaps because I'm so accustomed to the Apple OS, I have never bothered to fully master my Galaxy 5 Flip and just employ it as a 'carry-around' device in case I need to communicate while out]doors, on dog walks, of expecting an important call. The compactness and size is excellent but my standard remains my iPhone 12. No complaints about the Galaxy, though. It's a great little phone if you're a person whose life begins and ends with a smartphone every day. L'Chaim!
