I agree with you, Bob...but only in that war is always a terrible thing and that no one with a sane mind should ever wish to get embroiled in one. However, as someone who was involved in the 'Cold War' as a member of both ADC and SAC, but also as a military historian, I can assure you that the entire issue here is far more complex and much broader than many would have us believe.

As America continues to 'devolve' into its intensely myopic, obsessive/compulsive denigrations of 'white people' and 'the white race' as universal oppressors, and as strong, decisive (but also wise) leadership declines precipitously, we have lost sight of the historic importance of continuing to maintain America's traditional ethic of promoting freedom and democratic principles for all people (as unrealistic as that highly idealistic aspiration often seems).

What so many fail to grasp is that America is currently being squeezed by an increasingly belligerent 'Herr Putler' (who wishes to 'regain' Imperial Russia's fancied lost glory and former prestige, with himself as the new Tsar) on the one hand and by Xi ('Poohbear') Jinping on the other, who has made no bones about his vision of China's emerging world hegemony. In fact, Jinping is cannily sitting on the sidelines at this moment, studiously taking notes on how America (and 'the West') responds to Putin's outrages and shall take action accordingly, rest assured, when it comes to his stated goal of retaking the Republic of China, pending the outcome of the Ukrainian crisis.

Yes, you may feel that the Russia/Ukraine conflict is 'none of our affair', given our present intense social and racial navel-gazing, but that was also the feeling of many who opposed both WW1 and WW2. Would the world have been any better today with Hitler...or Josef Stalin...at the helm? I think not.

That said, when all the hysterical emotionalism is pared away, the basic fact is that Homo sapiens are by nature violent and by nature given to prioritising emotional motivations over rational thought and war is, has been, and always will be an inextricably indelible and ineradicable aspect of our existence.

[As an 'Eeyore-grade Nietzschian', I still feel the best solution would be to load up the BUFFs with thermo-nukes and utterly destroy all human life on the planet simultaneously, so as to Ma Nature try again to come up with a BETTER 'highest evolved sentient life form' to dominate this poor, long suffering planet of ours!] But that, of course, is hoping for too much. Meanwhile, we have far too many world-wide wildfires to cope with, as it is, to turn our backs on the oppressed Ukrainian people as you suggest.

As a final thought, assuming (for the fun of it) that we Earthly primitives have long been under observation by ETLFs (extra-terrestrial life-forms), I can't help but wonder what they think of this latest Earthly kerfuffle?

PS: Here's my far more serious assessment of the Ukrainian crisis, if it's of any interest: https://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewblog.asp?blogid=83467
