Very high-level writing, indeed, Patrick, as well as finely crafted. As an appréciateur of the Stoic philosophers, one of my favorite quotes from Marcus Antonius Aurelius has always been “The main challenge of life is to keep from joining the ranks of the insane” (or words to that effect). The caliber of your reflections will certainly help many of us hew to that admirable advice. By the way, ‘The Secret Garden’ has always been one of my favorite children’s stories, although I am largely unacquainted with the rest of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s word-craft (to my chagrin). There is much we adults (I use the term cautiously) can learn from children’s stories, not to mention the additional benefit of regaining a small measure of the lost innocence that ‘growing-up’ involves. Thanks for this insightful immersion into some of Burnett’s literature.
